On Saturday I attended an annual event – the Pro-Life/Pro-Family Coalition Conference. This year’s theme was Restoring the Dream! There were many great things that took place, but two of them I want to share. The main speaker, Pastor Harold Arrington and his wife Barbara of 55 years were able to share not only of the sustaining love that they have had for each other throughout their marriage – with one of their sons and daughters bearing witness (they have nine children); but they also told of thier courtship 56 years ago – a period of time getting to know each other in purity and holiness. Pastor Arrington delivered a powerful message on life -so reminiscent of the many days I heard him on the radio and television, a pioneer in local Christian television boldly proclalimiing God’s word – with an authority that made you believe!
It was also a tremendous blessing to hear the testimony of CD and Melody Fabien – still newleyweds, yet they have received some rather interesting acclaim, because in all their courtship – they never kissed – unril the day they became man and wife! The purity of thier relationship prior to their marriage was the result of yielding their lives in covenant to God and being faithful to the commitment they both made to Him.
In my early years as a Christian, one of the things I used as a measuring stick to see whether I was getting off track was to go to the Book and see how it was done in the beginning. Because I knew God was “the same yesterday, today, and forevermore,” I knew that the way it was in the beginning – God still intendend for it to be that way unril the end (when Jesus Christ returns to take His church home).
As Pastor Arrington spoke of God’s dream for man to a group of 100 young people and over 200 adults – the room was still – fascinated by the age old message found in the pages of God’s Word. And as a very young and handsome couple spoke of the story of their courtship, so mimicking that of Jacob and his love for Rachel – we witnessed that the life God intended for man is still possible in this post-modern world we live in.
There is much i could say about these two messages – and how much they meant to me – but for now I just want to say that if are going to survive this holocaust in this country brought on my willful, sinful, people, then we are going to have adopt a personal walk with a personal Savior based on personal instructionsl God wrote His instructions out in the Bible and they do not change – we can count on good success when we follow them. This week we are going to look at some housekeeping rules – straight from the throne for the here and now – straight from the author of life Himself!
