Tomorrow About This Time: Will You Be There?

Today our thoughts go to a familiar story about a time in Israel when things were so bad that women were cooking and eating their children (no matter what the news commentators say – we’re not there). the king of Israel was in such distress when he heard of this, that he tore his clothes and put on sackcloth and vowed to take off the head of Elisha.

Elisha who knew of the kings vow spoke the following words concerning the famine:

“THEN ELISHA said, Hear the word of the Lord. Thus says the Lord: Tomorrow about this time a measure of fine flour will sell for a shekel and two measures of barley for a shekel in the gate of Samaria!” 2 Kings 8:1 (AMP)

Elisha prophesied what would happen “tomorrow about that time” – he was so certain that he heard from God that when a doubter spoke he declared to him:

“Then the captain on whose hand the king leaned answered the man of God and said, If the Lord should make windows in heaven, could this thing be? But Elisha said, You shall see it with your own eyes, but you shall not eat of it” 2 Kings 8:2 (AMP)

The drama begins, the plot unfolds – more action than Steven Spielberg – no, God didn’t open windows of heaven, but he caused the host of the army of heaven to make a sound that scared the Syrian army straight out of their camp – leaving behind all their valuables and enough food to feed a multitude!

And who gave the report of the Lord – the least likely – lepers – outcasts of society – those set outside of the city brought the news all the way to the King’s chambers! God’s ways are past finding out and when He wants to perform a work in the land – He uses WHOEVER HE WANTS TO DO IT!

News commentators have conveyed a message of economic uncertainty that they predict will last for sometime to come. We have a choice to make – can we believe that “tomorrow about this time” – that this crisis can turn around? Can we believe that though millions decided to participate in the recession – “it will not come nigh us? Can we trust the Living Word of God to see us through every problem, every catastrophy, every economic downfall?

Or will we be like the man who leaned on the king’s arm – who had no faith in the man Elisha or his God – and made his own declaration of faith asking how could bread be in abundance in the midst of a famine – even if the windows of heaven were to open up. In fact, it happened just as Elisha said – but this man never lived to enjoy it.

I believe Isaiah 1L19 which says:

“IF you be willing and obedient, you will eat the good of the land.”

I live to see the whole counsel of God fulfilled – every word, every promise – what about you?

God Bless You
Maria
