Houses and Other Important Things!

Every day I look at HGTV – I love looking at houses; I don’t look at them because I am coveting, God has been too good to me to desire that which someone else has. However, I love to look at the style of different houses and the way they are decorated and I try to guess which potential house the buyer will pick to become their own. I also have never had my dream home and I study the different houses to develop my dream!

Looking at the Message Bible we find an interesting take on a familiar scripture:

“If God doesn’t build the house, the builders only build shacks.
If God doesn’t guard the city,
the night watchman might as well nap.
It’s useless to rise early and go to bed late,
and work your worried fingers to the bone.
Don’t you know he enjoys
giving rest to those he loves?”

Psalm 127″1-2

In this passage of scripture we find that the house not built by God is likened to that of a shack; and for the city not guarded by God – the guard might has well take a nap! I believe this to be true!

Many years ago I went to Minneapolis to a conference where I met a young single woman who owned a business on a busy street and lived in a house in the back of the business. I asked her if she was afraid to have her business and her home on such a busy street. She replied “No.” I asked her why. She replied because I have drawn a blood line around my business and my house and prayed that no one who couldn’t go through the blood of Jesus would be able to enter.

She relayed the story of how one day a man came to the busness who looked someone fierce; he came to the door and opened it and tried to come in, but all of a sudden he turned, screamed, and ran away!

Needless to say, I went home from that conference, and I did just what she did, I drew a blood line around my home and my children. I have since then drawn one around everywhere that I have lived! I have also done it around the places I work. To God Be the Glory – He has kept me and my family safe from invasion and harm. And the schools that I drew a blood line around did not suffer loss of life on the premises on my watch!

The second verse of this Psalm also says something very important – because it speaks not of our dwelling place, but the house we dwell in – us – our spirit, our soul – and God wants us to have that house protected too! Not to be overrun by the invaders of worry and anxiety – that will keep us up late and cause us to rise too early! God wants our “house” to be well taken care of – He wants to give us rest! He wants to be the “keeper of our heart” so that our house will stay in good shape.

I thank God for His watchcare over my house – both the one that I live in and the one that I am!

God Bless You,
Maria
