Another one of my favorite stories in Exodus is the wonderful way that God brought victory for the Israelites as they crossed the Red Sea. After Pharsoh’s refusal to let God’s people go, and suffering many plagues from God for this, the final plague which resulted in the first born in every Egyptian home suffering death, including the firstborn of all the animals persuaded Pharaoh to finally let God’s people go! But no sooner than they left and Pharaoh discovered that they were not coming back – he assembled his army and went fast on their trail. The Israelites saw the impending army and their reaction was to panic and Moses told them:
“But Morris told the people, Don’t be afraid, Just stand where you are and watch the Lord rescue you. The Egyptians that you see today will never be seen again. The Lord himself will fight for you. You won’t have to lift a finger in your defense… The waters covered the chariots and the charioteers. The entire army of Pharaoh. Of all the Egyptians who chased the Israellites into the sea, not a single one survived.” Exodus 14: selected verses
There are some passages of scripture that ring like music to your ears, don’t you love it where it says, “the Egyptians that you see today will never be seen again! And because I take the revealed word of God to be there as a beacon light for me to claim, I believe that there are things that have chased me down for years – that I have gotten victory over – that I WILL NEVER SEE THEM AGAIN! In fact, I have even found it to be true that there were many instances where there was no need for me to lift a finger in my defense – that God Himself fought battles that I thought were impossible and I never had to lift a finger!
Case in point, there was one woman on my job who was going behind my back and undermining me to our boss. She wanted me to get removed out of a certain position, so her friend could have that position. It looked like it was working – and I was so confused, for it seemed as if I might loose my job. I heard God speak to me and say that I was to forgive her and find a way to let her know that I had no ill will toward her. For a moment I felt like – “no way” – but then I had one of those suddenly moments and my heart softened toward her.
It was not two months later that a big scandal was uncovered and it was in the newspaper that she and a friend of hers had been involved with improper conduct! Once more and again God showed me that He was more than able (and willing) to fight my battles if I would just trust Him!
