For many years because I was a part of the pastor’s family, Sunday was a work day for me. So like many pastors, after I got the children off to school, Monday became my off day – a time when I would unwind, many days I would just put on praise music and just reflect on the glory of the day before.
Unfortunately, life in a house with eight growing children does not understand days off and if I relaxed too much on Monday – Tuesday I had to do double-duty on the chores – like the laundry – and that included ironing! So when I was smart – I would put on the praise music, put a load in the washer, and get out the ironing board – and sing while I ironed. If I did that, the week went so much easier – no getting up trying to find something for the children to wear – everything was clean and ironed and ready!
I will confess that today I rarely do ironing – when I come home – after rushing here and there five or six days a week, all too often I crash and wish I had a maid service. So what happens is what my house looks like now – too many piles of papers, books, and supplies – too little order – more crash time than I need because I don’t know where to begin.
Can you identify with this – maybe you don’t have books and papers to grade – and bills for your house and a parent who wasn’t able – but do you have something in your life that you have put off – and put off – and put off – and now you look at it and it’s a mess! What can you do – I for one know that at this point a maid would not be able to do anything with my piles – I’m the only one who can sort them out, file them – or grade them – or pay them -or whatever the case may be.
I heard a message at church this week-end which spoke directly to what I need to do Monday morning. It was on King Jotham, the son of Uzziah – Consider these passages from 2 Chronicles 27:
“JOTHAM WAS twenty-five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem… 2He did right in the sight of the Lord, to the extent of all that his father Uzziah had done. However, he did not invade the temple the Lord.,, 6So Jotham grew mighty, for he ordered his ways in the sight of the Lord his God.”
Jotham was mighty because he ordered his ways in the sight of the Lord. He learned from his Father’s mistakes and he didn’t repeat them – Who would have thought that a message on Jotham would finally get it in my head what I need to do to perform those mighty acts I always say I want to do for God! I’ve got to get out the ironing board and the file cabinets. Once more and again it proves:
“Faith comes by hearing and hearing through the Word of God.” Romans 10:17 (NKJV)
God Bless You,
Maria
