You're the God of this City! – You Are!

I don’t think there is a person who has heard the news in the last couple of months that has not been stirred by the reporting of the frequent deaths in Chicago among young people. As believers I know we are troubled in our spirits when we hear these reports and I know the Holy Spirit has pricked you by asking, “what are you going to do about it?” I know this because Jesus didn’t walk among the affluent, suburban – while he walked this earth – He was the God of the city!

Yesterday I was listening to “God of this City” arranged by Chris Tomlin and it sent that familiar stirring in my spirit – a call to action – and then I went to class last night and one of my students had written in her journal about why she taught on the west side of Chicago and related her early experiences – o.k. Lord you’re talking to me now – and all night I’ve been consumed with a thought that we will very soon announce. Because I wanted to use a portion of the lyrics of this song – and recognizing that it is essential to give proper credit, I researched this song to make sure who wrote it – and I was fascinated at the story. I’m not going to relay it here – but all I can say once more and again is, “God Your Ways are Pass Finding Out!

Meditate for a moment on these words:

God of This City

Written by Bluetree

You’re the God of this city

You’re the King of these people

You’re the Lord of this nation

You are

You’re the light in this darkness

You’re the hope to the hopeless

You’re the peace to the restless

You are

There is no one like our God

There is no one like our God

For greater things have yet to come
And greater things are still to be done in this city
For greater things have yet to come
And greater things are still to be done here

We believe, we believe in You, God

These words have captured my restless soul – for in them lie my passion – my conviction – my heart –

The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us,[a] not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.2 Peter 3:9

God is not slack – we His people are slack in believing His promises –

Do you believe we can take the city? Do you believe the killing of innocent youth can stop? Do you believe God is big enough and powerful enough to do battle against the wickedness that has boldly set up camp robbing this generation of many of their best and brightest?

Our first step is believing – out next step is seeking God – our third step is action.

Let’s join our hearts and minds together to do just that – more on this later…

God Bless You,
Maria

  2. And all God’s people say: AMEN! Thank you for this. I just learned this song recently when I sang on the worship team at a Women’s Conference. It is awesome and a call to action for God’s people.
