Go Light Your World!

Already streets are decorated with the signs of the season – bright bulbs, red bows, Christmas wreaths, and most of all lights, hundreds and hundreds of lights – no matter what we are going through, we are all lifted by the light!

Christmas is my favorite time of the year – I love the music – in fact I have the radio on day and night during this season pouring out the sounds I have come to love. And even now though the children all have homes of their own – I still like to put up a tree, decorating it with the ornaments now that my children have given me (a new tradition – they come and help decorate the tree and bring with them an ornament) – and lights, plenty of lights!

I can remember Christmases past, before technology solved the problem, when one light on a string would go out, the whole string would go out – it took painstaking work to discover which one it was, so it could be replaced by a good bulb. In reflecting on that I think it’s kind of like that – with us – as God’s people – too often we forget the power of one light and when the single bulbs begin to go out – it’s like we feel like the whole string has gone out! A single voice that fails to speak, a single light that fails to shine, should not affect the light that God has given each of us to light this dark world!

The words of a familiar song are ringing in my head:

There is a candle in every soul.
Some brightly burning some dark and cold
There is a spirit, who brings a fire
Ignites a candle, and makes his own.

Chorus

Carry your candle, run to the darkness
Seek out the hopeless, confused and torn,
Hold out your candle for all to see it
Take your candle, go light your world.
Take your candle; go light your world

Frustrated brother, see how he’s tried to
Light his own candle, some other way
See now your sister, she’s been robbed and lied to
Still holds a candle without a flame.

Chorus

Carry your candle, run through the darkness,
Seek out the lonely, the tired and worn
Hold out your candle, for all to see it
Take your candle and go light your world,
Take your candle go light your world.

We are a family, who hearts are blazing
So let’s raise our candles light up the sky
Praying to our Father, in the name of Jesus,
Make us a beacon in darkest time…

What a wonderful present we would give to the world if instead of looking at the lights of the season, we would take that light that is in us – and take it to really bring light to the darkness!

“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” Mt 5:16 (KJV)

Kairos,
Maria

  1. Christmas is indeed my favorite time of the year also. I love to remember the story of my precious Savior’s birth. He brought light to the whole world no wonder Satan tried to snuff him out by Herod trying to kill all the babies, 2 years old and under. Unfortunately, Satan is still trying to kill the babies., but Jesus came to give us life and that more abundantly.
