During this time of the year, I keep the radio station on day and night playing Christmas music. I love the sounds of the season – it lifts my spirits – somehow it helps me forget the negatives of the past year – and live in the hope of the promised future- isn’t that the message of the Christ child! That “unto us is born this day, a Savior which is Christ the Lord!” A savior- one who can save us from our sins – our heartache – our failures – our past – and take us into a new life full of possibilities – full of promise – full of joy!
Last night I attended a concert at Symphony Hall. I heard a different kind of music than I usually listen to – but what a privilege to hear the skill of the artists blend their passion for their craft in a love affair with their instrument – it produced a sound that was indescribable! You have to experience such a melody, such harmony – such magnificence!
It’s so like that with God – it is impossible to describe the melody that resounds in our hearts when God comes to live there, and even more difficult to express in words the kind of joy that occurs when that God manifests Himself in ways that our mind could not comprehend unless we had seen it for ourselves. Such was the case of those in Judah and Jerusalem after God had wrought them a victory in battle:
27Then they returned, every man of Judah and Jerusalem, Jehoshaphat leading them, to Jerusalem with joy, for the Lord had made them to rejoice over their enemies.
28They came to Jerusalem with harps, lyres, and trumpets to the house of the Lord.
29And the fear of God came upon all the kingdoms of those countries when they heard that the Lord had fought against the enemies of Israel.2 Chronicles 20:27-29 (AMP)
Imagine, never having to lift a sword or a spear and win a mighty battle! How I wish our country could grasp this significance – that if we followed the God of our Fathers – we wouldn’t have to continue to send troops to foreign lands. Each of us are facing battles every day. We are fighting battles within and battles without – how marvelous when we allow our soul to hear the music – we believe with new vision, we act with new determination – we live in His glory…
Ephesians 5:18-20 (New Living Translation)
18 Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit, 19 singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, and making music to the Lord in your hearts. 20 And give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
May You Hear His Music this Lord’s Day!
Maria
