Will My People Let Me Bless Them?

The most heart wrenching cry of a parent is when their children get old enough and big enough to do what they want to do, yet don’t have the maturity to make wise decisions, and when caught in a snare are too proud to let their parents help them out of the mess!
I will never forget being in this situation with one of my sons – I was trying everything to try to get him to stay home – where at least I knew he would be safe – and yet he kept wanting to leave – to go to the city- even if it meant living in undesirable conditions. How my heart wrenched in agony – I had worked so hard to provide what I thought was a good home – and it seemed as if he would do anything not to stay there.

That was many years ago, I didn’t have a clue as to how things were going to turn out. Some years later, he returned home and submitted, not to my care, but to God’s. When he left the next time, he had his own place and was fully capable of making his own way. What a difference! For a few months, coming home, he let me assist in blessing him to be able to get a place on his own. Now this may sound like I was the one being taken, but as I looked at the change in my son, I knew God was making him, not me – and I was not blessing him, I was allowing God to bless me to see what every parent desires – a boy maturing into a man!

Many times in our journey, we look to God to do “things” for us – He becomes our magic genie – “God bless me with this,,, God do this for me… God open this door…”
We think God is not on to our game, but what we fail to realize is:

32Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom. Luke 12:32 (KJV)

It is a joy for our Father to give us the things of the kingdom – but as much as we might be fascinated with “things” at first, if we continue to grow as a Christian, what we want most is not “things” – rather what we desire is “intimacy” -

Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom
Psalm 51:6 (KJV)

When the stuff hits the fan and all you know what breaks loose – what we want from God is not “things” – what we want is Him – telling us what to do, showing us how to navigate through the test, being with us, so we won’t be afraid of things we don’t understand or that come upon us such as sickness or grief.

Blessing us with things is only Christianity 101 – letting God really bless us is what God wants to do – He wants us to give us Himself – and with Him, we have all things:

see Colossians 2.

Maria

  1. Just before reading this, I was giving God praise for another blessing. I need some work done around here and I needed help for this service. God, sent someone to bless me once again. I can not tell you how much God can do for us that doesn’t just involve things. He has ways to bless us that we cant even grasp now. If it was just about the things, we would miss so much. Relationship with God is so much deeper. I am learning more and more that truly when you seek ye first the Kingdom of God and his righteousness, He will add……everything we need. Sometimes the packaging is not what we expected but the contents is just what we need.

  2. Sandra,
I want you to know that I so appreciate your responses, they are always a message that stands alone.

We are coming into the best of our Kingdom season – if we can but believe!

    Many blessings!
    Maria

  3. Blessings to you Maria for this great word. I have seen God do great things in his own time not mine when I got out of His way. “God’s gonna do what He’s gonna do”, words from an old song. He wants us to get out of His way so we can see Him work and so we will know we don’t deserve any of the credit. He gets all the glory not us.
