Pleasing God, or Trusting God? H-m-m-m
Currently I’m reading a book entitled, True-Faced, written by authors, Bill Thrall, John Lynch, and Bill McNichol. I haven’t finished the book yet, and I have no intention of trying to give a synopsis of it. However, I do recommend you reading it! Already, not even half-way through, it has caused me to understand some things that as I reflected, took me years to muddle through to obtain understanding. In fact, it reminded me of how many, many years I spent trying to work my way into God’s favor! read more...
The Wonder of It All!
On yesterday my usually busy schedule was interrupted with travel. I traveled across the country, and had more than enough opportunity to think, to reflect, to pray, to wonder… There are many who are acknowledging that we as the people of God are in the midst of a “shift” – for many of us things are changing rapidly! It is easy during these times to lose sight of the bigger picture that God wants us to focus on. When doors we have waited on so long begin to open, there is a tendency to jump out and “run on to see what the end is going to be”. There is also the tendency to dismiss all that was disturbing in our yesterday and conclude that there is a new chapter and the old chapter does not need to be re-visited. This can be a huge mistake! One thing I have learned on this journey is, God does not leave unfinished business! read more...
“I AM” – More Than Enough!
I am probably, like most of you, beginning a fresh new Bible reading plan for the new year. I decided that I would do it a little different this year – and I am excited about the potential that this new plan may provide. However, whatever plan you use – somehow we always start at the beginning of the Book – and certain familiar themes leap out to embrace us. Even though I haven’t got to Exodus yet – I see one such theme even in Genesis – the wonderful description of the Almighty God given by Himself to Moses. When Moses asked God what should he say to the children of Israel when he comes to them: read more...
There is Always a Song…
There are times when the pages of our lives are not written as we have hoped. It is times like these that we take comfort in God’s Word, and the God inspired Words He has given to those who hear His voice. How we thank God for those God inspired writers who can speak to our sentiments. How our heart was encouraged this morning to awake to the words of this song…May it bless you too! read more...
Graduation and Other Types of Celebrations!
What was once a solemn, quiet ceremony has become a rollicking, sometimes rowdy celebration – yes, I’m referring to graduations. It is almost nearly impossible to keep the audience quiet when their loved one marches across the stage and receives that blank portfolio that constitutes the completion of the required work for the level attained. As an educator, I have a lot of opinions about how this turn of graduation ceremonies is, but, I will say that I do understand. I can remember a few graduations of my own when I looked for certain people to be in the audience to be proud of me – and those people weren’t there; what should have been a happy moment for me, was not. We all look for affirmation, especially from those we love. read more...
Take Five!
There’s a famous jazz instrumental entitled “Take Five”. I was thinking about how often I heard it in years past and what it meant to me (and probably many others) when they heard it. The whole connotation speaks to “laying back, taking it easy”. This new year of 2012 has already come in like a lion, and I confess to feeling a little overwhelmed. It became necessary for me to step back a bit on yesterday, and I thought of it being January 5th. Five days have already come and gone in this new year! It seemed to be a good time to “take five” and see whether I was on course! read more...
